Placeholders let you quickly and easily create personalized text for different recipients or use cases without having to write each piece of text individually. Instead, you can write a general text and use placeholders within it to customize the text for your specific needs.
Where can I use placeholders? #
ChurchTools uses placeholders that open up many possibilities for you. You can currently use these placeholders anywhere in ChurchTools where you can compose e-mails or send form letters. Support for using them in label printing will be added in the future.
Depending on the context in which you’re writing a text, there are various placeholders available that you can insert either through the new user interface or by manually entering the placeholder (e.g., {{person.firstName}} (person’s first name)).
Where do I use placeholders? #
Placeholders in e-mails #
Whether you’re manually writing an e-mail to individuals or groups or having ChurchTools send e-mails automatically, in most cases you can use many placeholders.
Placeholders in form letters #
Whether in the HTML template or in the text of your mail merge—you can use the placeholders here as well.
Placeholders in donation receipts #
In donation receipts, you use special placeholders from the “Finance” module. We’ll show you how to create donation receipt templates in our guide, ” How toi create/edit donation receipt templates?”
Placeholders in Label Printing #
This feature will be available in an upcoming version of ChurchTools.
What placeholders are available? #
We’ve put together a list of all the placeholders available in ChurchTools so you can quickly find the one you’re looking for.
Advanced Use Cases #
You can use so-called placeholder functions to embed QR codes in your e-mails, for example. You can even customize them for multiple recipients. In our tutorial, “What Additional Options Do Placeholders Offer Me?”, we’ll explain how to implement this and other use cases.
