How to use placeholders in e-mails

1 min. read

In ChurchTools you can send e-mails to individuals and groups or send them from events and schedules and have the system send additional, automatic e-mails.

For all these use cases you can personalize the text and use various placeholders.
Different placeholders are available depending on who you are sending an e-mail to or from which module.

You will now find the placeholders built directly into the user interface when you compose a new text:

All available placeholders are displayed here and you can select them with one click.
There are placeholders for all DB fields, including those that you have created yourself, for group information fields and for relationship fields.

In the text, placeholders are highlighted in blue (1) and a control overview (3) is displayed at the bottom of the text field, which informs you whether the information required for the placeholders is stored for all recipients.

  • Green: All information is available.
  • Yellow: The information is missing for at least one recipient or you do not have permission to see the corresponding information.

You can display the syntax of the placeholder (2) by hovering the mouse over the placeholder. If you click on Preview (4), you can display your text and check whether all placeholders work as you have intended.
