What is the sidebar and how to customise it?

2 min. read

The sidebar is displayed next to the content page and is used to display important information on various other pages. For example, it can be helpful to display the current service dates or news in the sidebar.

The sidebar is composed of different elements and/or already created groupings of elements. Some of these elements can be found in standard pages. If you want to learn more about the different elements of ChurchTools website, have a look at the article about What are elements?

Sidebar elements (Elemente) #

On the left-hand side of the admin area, navigate to Sidebar > Elements (Seitenleiste > Elemente) (1). Here you will see a list of all the existing sidebar elements. If you want to create a new element, click on the button Create element (2) in the top right-hand corner. Here you have the choice between two element types: Standard element and Banner.

Create a standard element (Element erstellen) #

If you select standard element, you first give the element a title (1), which will later be displayed in the overview. Then you can adjust the link ending (2) if you wish. With the editor (3) you can insert text and other elements.

Create a banner element (Element erstellen) #

A banner has no text. It consists of an image that you can link to a link that opens when you click on the banner.

Here you define title (1) and slug (2), upload an image (3) and decide whether it should be opened in a lightbox (4) or not. Finally, you can add a link (5) and decide whether this link should be opened in a new window (6) or not.

Groupings of sidebar elements (Gruppierungen) #

Groupings contain several sidebar elements in an order you specify.

(1) Navigate to Groupings (Gruppierungen) via the menu on the left in the admin area. All existing groupings and the elements they contain are displayed here (2). You can create a new grouping by clicking on the button Create grouping (3).

Create a grouping (Gruppierung erstellen) #

Here you give the new grouping a title (1) under which you can later find it again. You can also adjust the link ending (2) here. You can then create new elements(3) or select existing elements (4) that you want to assign to the grouping.
