{"id":34786,"date":"2026-05-11T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/help\/non-knowledgebase\/uncategorized\/overview-of-finances\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T14:32:30","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T13:32:30","password":"","slug":"overview-of-finances","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/en\/help\/churchtools-modules\/finance\/overview-of-finances\/","title":{"rendered":"Overview Finance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The ChurchTools finance module offers an accounting solution for small and medium-sized churches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-group ct-box ct-box-blue has-background is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-002f1c27 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\" style=\"border-radius:8px;border-left-color:#3e70ce;border-left-width:0.5rem;background-color:#f3f5f7;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60)\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0.5rem;margin-right:0.5rem;margin-bottom:0rem;margin-left:0.5rem\"><strong>Note<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:0rem;margin-right:0.5rem;margin-bottom:0.5rem;margin-left:0.5rem\">The financial module can currently be booked by churches in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Finland.<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that anyone can make transactions from anywhere.<br><strong>Anyone<\/strong>: Both the experienced bookkeeper and the department manager who wants to make bookings for their department, such as the book table or the caf\u00e9.<br><strong>Anywhere<\/strong>: Anyone can securely log in to ChurchTools as usual from anywhere and get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you navigate to the finance module, you will first see an <strong>overview<\/strong> of the <em>last income<\/em>, <em>expenses<\/em>, <em>donations<\/em> and the <em>highest donations of the last 31 days<\/em> (1). The <em>budgets of all cost centers and accounts<\/em> (2) are also displayed. Use these tiles to quickly switch to the <em>bookings<\/em> (6) or <em>budgets<\/em> (7).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Above the overview on the right-hand side <em><a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/help\/churchtools-module\/buchungen\/30-wie-tatige-ich-buchungen-in-der-erweiterten-ansicht\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"7185\">you can quickly enter new bookings<\/a><\/em> (3), <em>change the client and posting year<\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/de\/help\/churchtools-modules\/stammdaten\/30-wie-kann-ich-ein-buchungsjahr-abschliessen\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"7173\">close a posting year<\/a><\/em> (5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Via the 2nd menu level above, you can also switch to the <em>bookings<\/em> (6) and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/en\/help\/churchtools-modules\/budgets-auswertungen-und-zwecke\/19-how-to-add-budgets\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/help\/churchtools-module\/stammdaten\/30-wie-lege-ich-budgets-an\/\">budgets<\/a><\/em> (7), but you can also view the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/en\/help\/churchtools-modules\/transactions\/using-bank-statements-well\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"7162\">account statements<\/a><\/em> (8) can also be displayed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under <em><a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/en\/help\/churchtools-modules\/budgets-reports-and-purposes\/what-reports-are-available\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"35665\">Reports<\/a><\/em> (9) you will find, for example, the balance sheet and profit and loss report. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under <em>Donors<\/em> (10) you can see an overview of all donors and <a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/help\/churchtools-module\/spenden\/30-wie-erstelle-ich-spendenbescheinigungen\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"7168\">create donation receipts<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the right-hand side of this level, call up the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/en\/help\/churchtools-modules\/master-data-finance\/master-data-overview\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"7165\">Master data<\/a><\/em> (11) of the finance module, where you can create new <a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/en\/help\/churchtools-modules\/master-data-finance\/19-how-to-add-a-new-client\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"7177\">clients<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/en\/help\/churchtools-modules\/master-data-finance\/19-how-to-add-a-new-accounting-year\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"7175\">posting years<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/churchtools.academy\/help\/churchtools-module\/stammdaten\/30-wie-lege-ich-einen-kontenrahmen-an\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"7176\">charts of accounts<\/a>, among other class=\"wp-block-heading\">Permissions for the Finances module<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You assign the permissions for the Finances module <em>globally<\/em> with the following permissions: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>View Finances (view) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>View accounting years and clients (view accounting period) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creating and Editing transactions for the Accounting Year and Client (edit accounting period)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edit master data (edit masterdata) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, you can give members the following <em>group-internal<\/em>
