With placeholders, you can quickly and easily create personalised texts for different recipients or use cases without having to write each text individually. Instead, you can write a general text and use placeholders in it to customise the text for you.

Where can I use placeholders? #

From version v3.103.0, ChurchTools uses new placeholders that open up many new possibilities for you.
You can currently use the placeholders wherever you can write emails or send form letters from within ChurchTools. The use in label printing will follow.  

Depending on the context in which you write a text, different placeholders are available to you, which you can use either via the new user interface or by manually entering the placeholder ( e.g: {{person.firstName}} (first name of the person)).  

How to use placeholders in e-mails
Whether you are manually writing an e-mail to people or groups or having e-mails sent automatically by ChurchTools, in most cases you can now use many new placeholders.

Placeholders in form letters
Whether in the HTML template or in the text of your mail merge – you can now use the new placeholders here too.

Placeholders in donation receipts
You use special placeholders from the “Finance” module in donation receipts.

Placeholder in label printing
This function will be available in an upcoming version of ChurchTools.

Further use cases #

You can also use control structures with the placeholders, e.g. to include an automated, gender-specific salutation in your e-mails using if-then relationships. We explain how to implement this and other use cases in our tutorial.
